elegant ethereal floral design

Posted in About, bridal, etc (flowers), events, floral design on November 25, 2008 by patricia johnson

I am Patricia Johnson, a fashion designer by trade, world-traveled, and inspired by the beauty of flowers!

A Lehigh Valley native, I moved to NYC in the mid 70s to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology; while living in midtown Manhattan, I discovered an unbelievable paradise in the middle of the city: the flower district on 27 & 28th St – only  a block from my school.  The foliage, flowers and trees spilled onto the streets throughout the year, allowing floral designers to purchase materials from around the world.

The enticing aromas and hues of colors have inspired me throughout my 25-year career as a fashion designer.

My professional travels to Europe and Asia over the years have allowed me incredible opportunities to absorb cultures, history, languages (I speak excellent taxi Chinese!) and access to local floral and foliage. During my travels, I have taken  photos and kept journals, at first not understanding my desire to record those experiences.

I call the Valley home and live locally with my husband and teenage son, but my work as a fashion designer takes me into New York on a weekly basis
and provides an advantage of having access to the flower markets of the city – unique floral not found in PA, which I use in my arrangements.

The colors, the forms, the light that flowers exude have captured me and the interest in creating amazing and unique arrangements as an art form has brought me to this new venture.  I have contributed my work for many Lehigh Valley Art Council events and my arrangements can be found at local restaurants and businesses.

Inspired by the work I do in fashion, my arrangements are unusual, unexpected and ethereal! I collect vintage textiles and trims and often use them in my floral design. My work appeals to creative minds, yet with a sensibility that touches into a past time.  My biggest inspiration in the world of floral design is Christian Tortu.

I look forward to bringing my floral style to your home, business, event or as a wonderful gift!

Best,

Patricia Johnson

Lisa & Vince – A Fall Wedding

Posted in bridal, etc (flowers), floral design on March 10, 2010 by patricia johnson

Lisa & Vince were married just a few months ago in a beautiful church in Easton.  Their reception, held miles away, following winding roads to the beautiful Bear Creek resort.  From the very first meeting, Lisa & Vince (and parents) knew that I would bring them something so unique and beautiful to this wedding.  From a trip to NYC’s floral market – so they could select the most seasonal flowers for the bridal bouquet, centerpieces and sweetheart table decorations – to the stunning final look, I loved creating for a very special day and for a very special couple.

details & new looks

Posted in ADS with tags , , , , on May 23, 2009 by patricia johnson

A few months ago I contacted Laura (Fleischer) after seeing her ad work about town and in my mail box.. she’s an event planner and has this creative thing going on that she recently started tapping into.  She has a  way with word flow and, as she told me at our first meeting, a desire to pursue her tucked-away-dream of becoming a photographer..   During our very first coffee, she suggested to change my [business] name from Artemisia Botanicals to Patricia Johnson Floral Design  and added the wild elegance, love, ethereal into the name.  She began my blog, thought prom creations would be a great market to pursue, and began documenting my work. And, so much more!

So.. when I informed Laura that I had 3 more prom orders for today, ok – really my last orders for this season, she headed over to my place in the a.m. to beat the mother’s picking up their orders and documented the details and created these amazing ads. Visual impact through the natural beauty of flowers.

More looks from today’s floral shoot to follow {including scenes from my fashion zone!}.

Best, Patricia

WORDPRESS ADA mix of Mother’s Day & new prom looks went on display this Saturday at a very cool coffee house called Mas Cafe.. (www.mascafe.net) in downtown Emmaus.   I had the opportunity to meet with a few parents and students, a bride-to-be (who came to Emmaus for the very first time with her mother and fiance), and a lovely young woman who will be celebrating her 21st birthday this summer.   A special thanks to Ray & Courtney – from Mas – for allowing me to set up “shop” for the afternoon.   Laura caught some great images.. so enjoy the looks!
